County study urges dispatch consolidation

A new study recommends that the number of emergency dispatch centers by reduced in Cuyahoga County and that emergency 911 equipment be upgraded.
Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald and the department of public safety and justice services released its public-safety answering-point assessment last month.
Last week, Gates Mills Councilman Douglas Bletcher, Police Chief Steven Szeredy, Fire Chief Thomas Robinson and Executive Lt. Ronald Whitmer attended the quarterly meeting on public-safety answering points.

Sights set on 2013 for new Giant Eagle

If city approvals go forward according to schedule, shoppers will have a new Giant Eagle supermarket in Solon by the summer of 2013.
Echo Development would be in the position to deliver the pad for the new supermarket by late next fall, all the while keeping the existing Giant Eagle in operation at the Solar Center shopping plaza at the southeast corner of Aurora (Route 43) and SOM Center (Route 91) roads.

Focus is on space for Town Hall plans

Munson Township Trustees got a little clearer picture last week of a wish list for renovating township offices, although officials emphasized that the plans remain just that -- a wish list.
Architect Henry A. Penttila presented a program of spaces, providing dimensions for possible rooms to be considered in the renovations planned for this spring and summer.

Solon clinches White East hockey crown

Solon's No. 3, Sam Littman, went a scoring rampage against Kenston Sunday in the Comets' 4-3 division-clinching hockey victory.
The junior forward scored all four of the Comets' goals, including three during a 3:06 stretch in the second period.
"We were just working hard and putting the pressure on them, and we just played as a team, and the goals came in that second period," Littman said. "All three of our games against Kenston this season have been close, and we knew we could get them this third time."

Students get jump on college planning

While thousands of high school student-athletes just partook in this year's national signing day Feb. 1, choosing a college is much more than just an event -- it's a process.
At Solon High School, where 95 percent of graduates go on to attend four-year colleges, the planning process begins at the beginning of junior year for each student.
