MILO DONALD HIMES JR.
Born on September 1, 1919 in LaFayette, IL in Goshen Township on the Himes family farm. Milo died on August 27, 2008.
Milo is survived by his wife of 49 years Carol (nee Taylor) his children M. Donald III (Kimberly) of Chagrin Falls, OH, Benjamin (Karen) of Chesterland, OH, Wendy (Scott) of Golden, CO and Douglas (Donna) of Leavenworth, WA. Also his grand children Matthew, Thomas, Diana, Catie, Rachael and Rayna.
Milo was raised on the family farm and earned his Bachelors in Economics and MA in Labor Management Relations from State University of Iowa, Iowa City. Shortly after marrying Carol, they moved to Dacca, East Pakistan (Bangladesh) working under a two year contract with The Asia Foundation. One of the many highlights of his expatriate experience was meeting Tensing Norgay at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute and tiger hunting in India. After returning to the United States he performed PhD coursework at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. He moved his family to South Russell, OH in 1965 after gaining employment with the Cleveland Welfare Federation.
Milo had a lifelong involvement with the Boy Scouts; he was an Eagle Scout and the Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 956 in South Russell, OH. He was a huge fan of Chagrin Falls High School Wrestling and a season ticket holder for the Cleveland Browns. He was an avid outdoorsman; hunting, fishing, backpacking and wilderness camping. He also loved vegetable gardening and was an ardent reader of all material. He considered his life work to be for peace and justice. In his later years he was active with Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity.
A private family memorial service was held. In lieu of flowers, donations to Meals on Wheels or Habitat for Humanity would be most appreciated.
