Chagrin Falls flies past Campbell

In a capsule rerun of the regular season, the Chagrin Falls football team used the run, the pass and a stingy defense over visiting Campbell Memorial, 41-13, in the opening round of the Division IV playoffs last Saturday night.

The victory was the Tigers’ 11th straight and advances them to the second round of the playoffs against Cortland Lakeview (8-3) Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Aurora High School.

The teams were scoreless the entire first period until Chagrin Falls erupted for 15 points in the second quarter, while allowing just six.

Quarterback Chris Trinetti scored the Tigers’ opening touchdown on a 2-yard keeper. Later in the period, Trinetti connected with Pat Nadeau on an 8-yard touchdown pass.

In the third quarter, Chagrin’s Scott Campbell returned a fumble 17 yards for the team’s third touchdown. Also in the period, David Powers caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Trinetti and Trinetti scored on another keeper.

Nadeau finished the scoring for the Tigers in the fourth quarter when he caught his second touchdown pass from Trinetti, this one for 18 yards.

Trinetti connecting on 10 of 13 passes for 102 yards. Chris Gorman carried the ball 11 times for 95 yards.

Chagrin coach Mark Iammarino said he has been pleased all season with the way his defenders have kept opponents out of the end zone, thus giving the offense more time and opportunity to be on the field.

“I’m extremely excited about our defense,” he said. “We’re not tremendously big, but we get to the ball well. In the playoffs especially, your defense has to prepare for the unknown.”
