LEONARD J. ALPERIN

Pediatrician Leonard J. Alperin, M.D., who had a private practice with several offices, died December 19 at age 92. After retiring from private practice at age 80, he continued to work part-time. Dr. Alperin was affiliated with Mt. Sinai, University and Women's Hospitals among others over the course of his career. He belonged to the Retired Pediatricians Association and volunteered at Cleveland's Free Clinic.

A member of Anshe Chesed Fairmount Temple, Dr. Alperin was involved with the City Club of Cleveland, Beechmont Country Club, and the College of Jewish Studies, now Siegal College.

Dr. Alperin took weekly violin lessons into his 90s. He loved the arts, particularly working with marble, and he painted. He enjoyed swimming, tennis, golf, and ice skating.

As a young father, Dr. Alperin took his family on vacations at a working farm, where he enjoyed working in the fields and helped plant several hundred trees. Later in life, he often took rides in the country.

A graduate of Cleveland Heights High School and Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Dr. Alperin served as a captain in the U.S. Army during World War II. His parents were killed in a fire on the Great Lakes cruise ship Noronic in 1949.

Dr. Alperin was predeceased by his first wife, Toni (nee Aaron); second wife, Lois (nee Jacoby); and son, Dr. Kenneth. He is survived by his wife, Tema Greenberger; son, James; step-daughters, Marcy Wright and Diane Waldman; and four grandchildren.
