GOP money aids winners in Chagrin Falls Township
By BARBARA CHRISTIAN
Recently completed Ohio campaign finance reports indicate the winning ticket of Thomas Florkiewicz and Michael Wise in the Nov. 3 Chagrin Falls Township trustees race spent over $3 for each of the 1,902 votes they received. The pair raised $6,061 for their campaign to unseat incumbent Trustees Stephen Thomas and Diana Nazelli.
Although they did not run as a team, Mrs. Nazelli's and Mr. Thomas' total campaign expenditures amounted to $5 for each of the 1,006 votes they received.
The Friends of Wise and Florkiewicz campaign committee received a majority of those funds, $3,500, from the Republican Party of Cuyahoga County. Sally Florkiewicz, wife of Mr. Florkiewicz, is chairwoman of the county GOP's central committee.
Among those contributing the the Wise-Florkiewicz campaign were Matthew Dolan, formerly of Russell and now of Chagrin Falls, a Republican who resigned last week as state representative, and former state Sen. Grace Drake, a Republican from Solon.
Addresses of the remaining donors listed in the report were from Chagrin Falls, South Russell, Columbus, Cleveland and one from out of state.
On the same campaign finance report, the Friends of Wise and Florkiewicz listed total expenses at $5,993. Those funds were used for a Web site, graphics, advertising services, mailing services, catering, printing and advertising in the Times. The campaign report showed a positive balance of about $68.
The Committee to Re-Elect Diana A. Nazelli received $599 in contributions from six Chagrin Falls individuals, including herself. Mr. Thomas was the only public official who contributed to her campaign. She spent $599 for printing and postage.
Mr. Thomas raised $4,435 for his Committee to Re-Elect Stephen G. Thomas with donations from 17 Chagrin Falls village and township residents and two out-of-state donors. Campaign expenditures for his campaign totaled $4,435 for signs, brochures, printing, clerical service and postage reimbursed to his law firm, mailing, supplies and advertising in the Times.
Donors to Mr. Thomas' campaign included fellow Trustee Jeffrey Homans, Edgar Boles, husband of the township's chief financial officer, Elizabeth Boles, former Ohio District Court Judge William O'Neill and Chagrin Falls board of zoning appeals chairman John P. O'Brien.
