ELMER METTI
Elmer Metti, 95, formerly of Cleveland, OH died Friday, January 22, 2010. The Cleveland native retired in 1981 from Williams and Company, the House of Metals. Elmer was a member of the First Hungarian Reformed Church where he was the Sunday school superintendent and a member of the Church of the Redeemer where he taught Sunday school for 14 years. He was later a member of Garfield United Methodist Memorial Church in Pepper Pike, OH, where he was active in the Christ Care organization. Lastly Elmer was a member of First Christian Church, Owensboro, KY.
In his youth, Elmer played sandlot baseball. He watched Babe Ruth play ball, and attended high school with Jesse Owens. Elmer also enjoyed many rounds of golf and loved all professional sports. He bowled on a league beginning in 1950, and was an active member of the Plymouth Heights Church Bowling league for 9 years. He continued league bowling in Cleveland and in Owensboro until the age of 91. He was a member of two vision groups sponsored by the Cleveland Sight Center as well as the Hungarian Friends organization in Cleveland.
Throughout his life, Elmer was a Christian influence on many people of all ages. He was a credit to his God, to his family, and to his friends. His earthly presence will be missed but he will not be forgotten. He was preceded in death by an infant son, David Elmer Metti, and also by his beloved wife, Julia.
Survivors include his daughters Lynore Metti of Salzburg, Austria, and June Stapleton (Mitch) of Owensboro, KY; two granddaughters, Alexandra Metti of Austria, and Renee Robertson (Keith) of Villa Hills, KY; and his two beloved great-granddaughters, London and Erin Dailey.
Visitation was Monday, January 25, at James H. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory. Services were held at First Christian Church on Tuesday, January 26, 2010. Final services will be held at Garfield United Methodist Memorial Church in Pepper Pike, OH on 11:00 a.m. EST. Thursday, January 28, 2010 with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery.
