Chagrin's Home Town organization dismisses director

By BARBARA CHRISTIAN

The executive director of the nonprofit organization Your Home Town Chagrin Falls has been dismissed in a restructuring move, according to board President Keith LaTore.

Nancy Haag, who had been with the organization and two predecessor groups for eight years, was notified Monday, Mr. LaTore said.

He said Tuesday that he would not discuss the personnel move but indicated the dismissal had to do with the organization's move toward becoming a more volunteer-based operation.

Mrs. Haag said she could not comment at this time.

By Tuesday morning, the organization's Web site had removed Mrs. Haag's name from its contact page. Patrice Ambrose, assistant director, remains listed and in her positions.

Mr. LaTore said Monday in a statement that the Your Home Town board had been looking at its operation via "careful internal review of the entire organization" for the past 18 months.

"Like any nonprofit, we work hard to advance the organization and its mission, regardless of the current or expected economic environment."

He said the board sought to reduce the organization's paid staff.

"The executive committee, our volunteers and the community appreciate Nancy's hard work over the past eight years, and we wish her all the best in her next venture," he said.

Mrs. Haag had been in a leadership position with the two Your Home Town predecessors -- Main Street Chagrin Falls and Downtown Chagrin Falls.

In addition to Mr. LaTore, the Your Home Town board consists of: Kathy Lyle, vice president; Richard Brown, secretary; Lisa Turner, past president and members Connie DeGood, Dick Desberg, John Eberle, Dick Kaplan, Wendy Naylor, Christine Thome and Susan White.

Plans are to continue with all of the Your Home Town-sponsored events and the organization is looking for volunteers to help with the two upcoming spring events, the May 8 Herb and Flower Festival and biennial Home and Garden Tour June 4 and 5.

Volunteers should call the office at (440) 247-0900.

Among other projects are the Your Home Town design committee which concentrates on preservation issues and oversight. That committee also oversees the decorative urn project and planting and maintaining village flower beds.

Your Home Town projects also include the Sunday Farmers Market, publication of seasonal advertising sections, car shows and July Fourth event, annual art walk, wine-tasting benefit, Holiday Traditions programming and Holly Hall attractions, Web-site development, merchant promotions and co-op advertising programs, merchant Web page project, economic development including new business information kits and business attraction and retention committee and marketing fund.

With the assistance of the village, the organization operates the Visitor's Center in Township Hall at 83 N. Main St. Visitor information as well as the sale of nonprofit organization items, histories, brochures and guides are made available there.

The organization's mission is as "... a community volunteer organization dedicated to preservation of the economic vitality, lifestyle and environment of Chagrin Falls (and) based on the Main Street model developed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation (and) welcomes participation and support."
