Hawken girls win 12th straight sectional

The Hawken School girls breezed to their 12th consecutive Division II sectional title last Saturday in their home pool. The Lady Hawks collected a total of 566 points compared to 361 for second-place Hathaway Brown.
In the 50-yard freestyle, Hawken's Dana Shaker was second behind Maplewood's Jordan Moxley. Their times were 23.91 and 25.40 seconds, respectively.
In the 100 freestyle, Hawken's Sarah Koucheki was second behind McDonald's Katie Joseph. Their respective clockings were 52.40 and 52.50 seconds.
Hawken's Morgan Cohara was second in the 200 freestyle behind McDonald's Joseph. The winning time was 1:54.01 and Cohara finished in 1:54.83.
The Lady Hawks had a one-two finish in the 500 freestyle, with Carrie Bencic winning and Jordan Bitterman in second. Their times were 5:04.91 and 5:07.92, respectively.
In the 100 backstroke, Cohara picked up another first-place finish. Her winning time was 58.62 seconds. In the 100 breaststroke, the Hawken duo of Lizzie Aronoff and Amanda Moore finished first and second in 1:07.67 and 1:09.97, respectively.
The winner in the 100 butterfly was Hawken's Koucheki in 57.02 seconds.
In the 200 individual medley, Hawken's Bencic finished second behind Cortland's Emilee Gysegem. Their times were 2:08.82 and 2:10.47, respectively.
Hawken took first place the 200 free relay, the 400 free relay and the 200 medley relay.
Hawken's time in the 200 freestyle relay was 1:39.20. The members of the relay team were Mackenzie Harris, Dana Shaker, Koucheki and Bitterman.
The Hawks' time in the 400 was 3:34.57. The relay team was made up of Koucheki, Bencic, Bitterman and Cohara.
In the 200 medley, the Hawken team of Cohara, Aronoff, Bencic and Harris won with a time of 1:49.90.
Solon wins Division I
The Solon girls won the Division I sectional at Mayfield High School, chalking up 542 team points, compared to 394 for second place Shaker Heights.
The Comets claimed first-place honors in the 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 100 breast stroke, 400 freestyle relay, 200 medley relay and the 1-meter dive.
In the 50 freestyle, Solon's Annie Marquis won with a time of 24.71 seconds. Her teammate, Kelsey McRill, was second with a time of 24.64.
In the 100 freestyle, Marquiss was again the winner, clocking 53.88. Solon's Emily Schwartz was second at 54.15.
In the 100 butterfly, the Comets' Maryn Bieganski took first place with a time of 59.02 seconds.
In the 200 freestyle, Solon's Schwartz was a winner at 1:57.18. In the 500 freestyle, Solon's Melissa Besman was second with a clocking of 5:07.13.
In the 100 breaststroke, Briana Sciara won for the Comets with a clocking of 1:08.43. Her teammate Katherine Taylor was second with a time of 1:09.37. Taylor was also second in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:03.30.
The Solon team of Taylor, Kelsey McRill, Sciara and Bieganski won the 200 IM relay with a time of 1:52.11.
The Comets' foursome of Schwartz, Bieganski, Marquiss and Besman won the 400 relay in 3:39.52.
Solon's Sivan Mills won the 1-meter diving.
Tigers claim Division II titles
In the Division II girls' competition at Lakewood High School, Chagrin Falls claimed sectional championships in the 200 individual medley, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, 400 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay.
In the 200 IM, Chagrin Falls had a one-two finish with Meghan Shroyer winning and Lindsey Quinn finishing second. Their times were 2:12.59 and 2:20.26, respectively.
In the 100 backstroke, Chagrin's Meghan Shroyer was again a winner, and Jackie Shroyer was second. Their respective times were 1:00.07 and 1:01.41.
In the 100 breaststroke, the Lady Tigers' Lindsey Quinn was the winner in 1:10.71.
The Lady Tigers won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:58.10. The relay team includes Quinn, Meghan Shroyer, Jackie Shroyer and Susannah Shellley.
Chagrin Falls won the 400 freestyle relay with a quartet of Shelly, Quinn, Shroyer and Shroyer. The winning time was 3:45.46.
