DONALD E. WELSH

Donald E. Welsh, passed away a week ago last Saturday while vacationing and recuperating in Tortugas, British West Indies from a heart attack and triple bypass in November.

Don and his brother, Edward, were born in Youngstown but were sent to University School when the High School had boarders.

At University School, Don grew a passion for the newspaper and publishing business and became Editor of the University School Newspaper. Following degrees from Columbia University and Cleveland Marshall Law School, Don joined Fortune Magazine and launched his career in publishing.

Rolling Stone Magazine hired Don to bring their Magazine from an underground newspaper in San Francisco to a legitimate publication in New York. Don's name is displayed in the launched Rolling Stone Magazine Exhibit as Publisher. Today the original publications are displayed at the Cleveland Rock and Roll Hall of Fame publication section.

While in Cleveland, Don married Bourne Floyd, daughter of Betty and the late Franklin Floyd of Hunting Valley. He leaves Bourne; two children, Philip and Leah; brother, Edward Welsh; and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be private, but a memorial service is being planned.
