Kenston 13U team wins Perry baseball tourney

The Kenston Baseball Association 13-and-under team won the Perry Baseball Classic Tournament last weekend.

The team, coached by Jeff Bush, won four games in the rain-soaked three-day tournament, including three games in a row on the final day.

The Bombers defeated the Super Joes Sluggers for the championship, 5-4. Nate Blake threw a five-inning, no-hit shutout and Josh Hummer finished the game with two innings in relief. Hummer stuck out the last batter to save the game in the bottom of the seventh inning with runners on second and third.

Bush had three hits and Blake added two hits.

In the first game, Kenston beat Mentor 12-9 by scoring six runs in their last at bat. Blake had a game-winning two-run single. Jeremy Wyers and Adam Bush each had three hits.

Kenston edged Aurora 6-5 in the second game. Blake reached base with a single, stole second and scored on a Jimmy Artale game-winning hit in the eighth inning.

Kenston downed the host Perry Pirates 13-4 in the third contest. Bush had two singles and two doubles, Blake and Artale each had a multiple hit game.

The team competes in the Great Lakes Baseball League.
