ROBERT F. SPOSITO

Robert F. Sposito, age 78, passed away August 15, 2010. Bob was a graduate of Georgetown University '53 where he served as Senior Class President. He recently co-chaired his 50th reunion. Following Georgetown, Bob joined the US Navy and served as Lieutenant JG on the Destroyer USS Eaton. He was awarded the US Navy's highest award for heroism for his actions following a collision at sea. In 1957, Bob joined the IBM Corporation in New York City, relocating to Gates Mills, OH, in 1971 to serve as the Branch Manager for the Cleveland operations. He retired from IBM in 1989 after a successful career of 32 years. After retiring from IBM he joined Norstan Communications, where he served as VP of Marketing from 1989-1999. Bob sat on several Corporate Boards and was a past president of the Board of Trustees of Hillcrest Hospital. Active in the community, Bob served on the Boards of the Gates Mills Improvement Society and Gates Mills Land Conservancy. He was a member of Kirtland Country Club. Bob's passion and energy however, after "retirement" was centered on the advancement and development of therapeutic riding. Highly involved with the Fieldstone Farm Therapeutic Riding Center, he served as Interim Director and was a past President of the Board of Trustees. His leadership and dedication to this wonderful partnership between children with disabilities and horses had him also serve on the Board of Trustees for the Charleston Area Therapeutic Riding Center. He was awarded the President of the United States Volunteer Service award 5 years in a row for making a difference through volunteer service.

Bob is survived by his wife, Mimi (they just celebrated their 50th anniversary); his two sons, Bob of Marietta, GA (Betsy) and Timothy of Ann Arbor, Ml (Michelle); and his three grandchildren, Nicholas (14), Madison (5), and Mikala (5). Bob is also survived by two loving sisters, Ann and Mary Sposito of Southport, CT.
