NEUBAUER FREDERICK FELIX "FRITZ"
FREDERICK FELIX "FRITZ" NEUBAUER
Frederick Felix "Fritz" Neubauer, 90, arrived at the Happy Hunting Grounds on September 20, 2010. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family.
Born on November 7, 1919, in Austria, Fritz immigrated to the United States with his mother and sister in 1927. As a young man he made his living as a fur trapper, then started and operated the legendary Neubauer's Fur, Fish and Game Farm in Newbury for more than fifty years. He was an avid outdoorsman and outspoken proponent of land and wildlife conservation issues.
Fritz was a decorated World War II veteran, serving as an Army Ranger in The Pacific Theater from 1941-1944, until he was wounded in the Battle of Saipan. He received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Combat Infantryman Badge.
Survivors are his daughter, Jamie (Jerry) Davis of Burton; son, Fritz (Jane) Neubauer, Jr. of Chardon; grandsons, Fritzel, III and Sam; nieces, Ann (Keith) Elliott and Lynn (Bob) Munson; former wife, Dolores "Dee"; and eight stepchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Gertrude Pudlock; parents, Gustav and Marianna; wife, Ceil (Bodnar); wife, Helen (Halle); and dozens of faithful Labrador Retrievers including Ranger, Honeybear, and many others.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. An open house celebration of Fritz's life will be held on October 10th from 3:00 to 6:00pm at Hickory Lake Inn, 14592 Stone Road, Newbury.
In lieu of gifts and flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Atwood-Mauck American Legion Post 459, P.O. Box 261, Burton, OH 44021, or to the Western Reserve Land Conservancy, P.O. Box 314, Novelty OH 44072. The family and the Land Conservancy have established a special fund that will be used to preserve and restore exceptional wildlife habitat in the watersheds of the three rivers best known and loved by Fritz, the Chagrin, the Cuyahoga, and the Grand.
