Spirit of giving spreads good will

Spirit of giving spreads good will

'Twas two days before Christmas, and all through the land everyone waited for gifts Santa will hand out. OK, so it isn't a perfect rhyme, but it comes with good intentions.

Since the jolly old elf is in a generous mood this year, there are gifts under the tree for you all. Now gather around and stand when your name is called.

For public servants Tim and Diane Grendell, Velcro, so they can stick to a job for awhile or until voters decide otherwise ... and they also get the play-at-home version of musical chairs to replace the old tattered one they have been playing in public.

For the Bainbridge Food Bank, a nonstop line of grocery baskets filled with meal fixings to serve everyone who needs them.

For the South Russell Show Your Colors Committee, funds enough to keep Old Glory flying high, wide and handsome for years to come.

For the Chagrin Falls Tigers football team, a state championship in 2011.

For Mary Ann Ponce and her hardworking, dedicated Chagrin Documentary Film Festival volunteers, a new collection of eye-catching films.

For Falls Walk developers, the gift of common sense. Enough to maintain historic Windsor Hospital Linden Hall inside and out so they are not forced to go to the architectural review board for a demolition permit.

For all those new residents of the Falls Walk development, a better view of the backside of a much-improved Linden Hall.

For local authors Glenn Wyville, Sandy Philipson, Scott Lax, Tom Mattern, Pam Spremulli, Gary Palmer, Jim Vittek, Terry Taggart, E.T. Thoryk, Janet Kuivila, Jane McKelvey, Bill DeVol, Michael Seese, Donald K. Evans, Heather Reeder, Joyce Teeft, Larry Morrow and the Chagrin Falls Historical Society, thriving sales and many more stories to tell.

For the Valley Art Center, a sell-out this spring for "Imagine," the John Lennon-inspired benefit which speaks to keeping the creative process alive and in great health in that now fully renovated and redesigned facility for the visual arts.

For newly elected Cuyahoga County Council member and Moreland Hills resident Jack Schron, all the patience and wisdom necessary for the work ahead.

For the Spillway Partners, some visible forward progress at the Ivex site to answer all the "it's never gonna happen" naysayers.

For favorite son Tim Conway, a solid gold halo for all the good things he does for his hometown and the Chagrin Valley Little Theatre.

For Chagrin Falls voters, a choice for a change, with more than seven candidates running for the seven Village Council seats.

They really should get coal in their stockings, but, since we are in the spirit of giving, here's a little something for U.S. Congress Republicans who recently voted against health care for 9/11 first responders. First, a big bag of empathy to fertilize a collective soul and another filled with hubris killer to nip the growth of out-of-control egos.

And last but not least, to those we did not mention, a very merry Christmas, happy holiday season and a much improved 2011.
