Singers invited to join Voices of Solon chorus
People who love to sing, whether they have lots of experience doing so or none at all, are invited to join a new community ensemble called Voices of Solon at Solon Center for the Arts. The first rehearsal will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Jan. 24, and they will continue each Monday until the premiere concert on April 3.
Voices of Solon will be conducted by Solon resident Betty-Ann Lynerd and accompanied by pianist Karen Prasser.
The premiere concert will feature Voice of Solon and members of the Cleveland Orchestra and Solon Philharmonic Orchestra, who will accompany the chorus and play their own selections.
The repertoire for Voices of Solon will be secular in nature and will range from madrigal to Beethoven and Brahms, to Gershwin and contemporary jazz.
Throughout her career, Ms. Lynerd has created choral experiences for a wide variety of singers in community choruses and on college campuses. Before moving to Ohio, she directed the Annapolis Vocal Arts Society, the Queen Anne's Chorale, Tessitura, Washington, D.C.'s chamber ensemble for women, the University Women's Chorale at George Mason University and the Calvary Gospel Singers in Manhattan. Her collaborations include the National Symphony Orchestra, National Endowment for the Arts, Washington's Eclipse Chamber Orchestra, the American Guild of Organists, the United States Naval Academy and members of the Cleveland Orchestra.
Ms. Lynerd was president of the American Choral Directors Association for Maryland-Washington, D.C. She is a member of the music and humanities faculties of Cuyahoga Community College, where she has received the outstanding faculty award for the past two years. She is artistic director for Vasa Voices, Cleveland's Swedish Choir.
Musically trained at Westminster College, Westminster Choir College and Montclair University, Ms. Lynerd earned a doctorate in theology in 2007, focusing her research on the music of Johann Sebastian Bach. She is published in Women of Note Quarterly and in the Journal for the International Alliance of Women in Music.
In order to cover costs for this first concert, there will be a $25 membership registration fee for singers. Registration forms are available at Solon Center for the Arts, 6315 SOM Center Road, or by contacting Joan Long at (440) 337-1420. To reserve spaces, call the center at (440) 337-1400.
