JOHN L. NORTH
John L. North, age 83, of Summerfield, FL, passed away on January 11, 2011. He graduated from Shaw High School and Miami University. While at Miami, he played football and was a member of the 1948 Sun Bowl team. He spent his career as a teacher, coach, assistant principal and athletic director at Orange High School, located in Pepper Pike, OH. He received several "Coach of the Year" awards along with Distinguished Service and Community Service awards. He was a member of the Orange Staff Hall of Fame and the Northeast Ohio Athletic Directors Board. John retired in 1985 and continued to enjoy his rounds of golf.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Janet; and his children and their spouses --Deborah; Jack and his wife, Joyce; Daniel and his wife, Leslie; grandchildren -- Casey, Jenna, Kelly Jennifer, and Danielle.
Visitation will be held at Stroud-Lawrence Funeral Home, 95 S. Franklin St., Chagrin Falls, OH., from 5-7p.m. on Thursday, January 20. Church service will be at the United Methodist Church, 20 S. Franklin St., Chagrin Falls, at noon on Friday, January 21. In lieu of flowers, the family appreciatively suggests donations to Hospice of Marion County, 3231 SW 34th Ave., Ocala, FL 34474 or Moffitt Cancer Center, 12902 Magnolia Dr., Tampa, FL 33612.
