KING JANE

JANE KING

Lifelong Community Volunteer

Jane King, longtime Chagrin Falls resident, passed away on February 1st at Anna Maria Nursing Home in Aurora following a valiant battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born in East Cleveland in 1918, Jane was a graduate of Shaw High School and the University of Michigan where she was Vice-President of her class. She remained an active alumni member of Delta Gamma Sorority her entire life.

In the 1930’s, her family moved to Gates Mills where she became a member of St. Christopher’s-by-the-River Episcopal Church, The Historical Society, and the Gates Mills Garden Club. She won numerous awards for her flower-arranging.

In 1965, she and her husband, Ben, moved to Chagrin Falls. She was an active member of the Woman’s Club, Chagrin Falls Beautification & Parks Commission, and Cat’s Den Garden Club. She volunteered for many years at The Sassy Cat, a local store whose proceeds provided scholarships for area high school students. Her lovely window displays were evident to all who passed by the beloved Main Street store.

Jane is survived by her husband of 57 years, Ben; and their 3 children, William, Susan and Kathleen; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on February 12th at 2:00 p.m. at St. Christopher’s-by-the-River Church in Gates Mills. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Christopher’s-by-the-River, 7601 Old Mill Road, P.O. Box 519, Gates Mills, OH 44040.

Arrangements have been made by Stroud-Lawrence Funeral Home.
