JOHN “JACK” C. SCHANTZ
John “Jack” C. Schantz passed away February 16, 2011, at Hospice House of the Western Reserve in Euclid, OH. He was born July 12, 1939, in Philadelphia, PA and a resident of Novelty since 1972.
Jack received his Speech Major; Chemistry and Business Minor from the University of Minnesota. In addition, he received his Master’s Degree in Management from the American Management Association in New York. His business career included chemical engineering, and management in the chemical field. He also was the Vice President and General Manager of a subsidiary of Reliance Universal, a chemical company. His management career expanded in 1984-1992 to President of a small telephone company that is now part of WorldCom. Jack retired in 1998 as a sales manager who made a major contribution to the sales for a Cleveland telephone company.
Jack married Judith Hren on September 16, 1961, in Rochester, MN. His main interests were woodworking, horses, photography, skiing, motorcycling, and business consulting. His passions were Hawaii and sailing. Jack was a member of numerous professional organizations. In addition, he was a Rotarian for 25 years, a member of Toast Masters, and the American Petroleum Institute. He was also an active member of St. Helen’s Catholic Church.
Jack is survived by his wife, Judith of Novelty; daughter, Ann Malia (Marvin) Nordeen of Traverse City, MI; two grandchildren, Hannah and Cooper.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin P. and Marie C. (nee: Cooper) Schantz III.
Visitation will be Friday, February 25 from 4-8pm with a prayer service at 6:30pm at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St. (on SR 44, 500' south of Rt. 6/Chardon Square), Chardon, OH.
A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, February 26, 2011, 10am, at St. Helen’s Catholic Church, 12060 Kinsman Rd., Newbury. Burial will be at Munn Cemetery, Newbury, OH.
