GEORGE F. LYNCH
George F. Lynch, 77 of Moreland Hills, a retired partner of Squire, Sanders & Dempsey, died at home October 26 peacefully in his sleep after a long battle with cancer.
Son of the late Alan and Norma Lavelle Lynch, he was born April 8, 1931 in Toronto, Ontario. He attended the University of Michigan on scholarship and received a BA in 1954 and a law degree in 1957. An accomplished runner, he was awarded the Governor General's award as the outstanding amateur athlete of Canada in 1949. He ran on the Michigan varsity track and cross country teams and was Big Ten champion in the two mile run.
He married Elizabeth (Betty) Mares in 1953 and is survived by Betty, his two sons James and Andrew, a daughter-in-law, Carol, and two grandchildren, Graham and Cameron. He was preceded in death by another son, Geoffrey, who died in 1978. In addition to his family, his great love was for Canada and for his long time summer residence KerryCroft in the Ontario cottage country.
George spent his entire career with Squire, Sanders & Dempsey, served for many years as head of the Cleveland labor practice and was managing partner of the firm's Miami office from 1986 until his retirement in 1993. After retirement he was active with Business Advisors of Cleveland providing professional advice to startup and other small businesses.
Visiting hours will be Thursday October 30 at Stroud-Lawrence funeral home from 2-4 pm and from 6-8 pm. A private family burial is to be held on October 31. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the charity of your choice.
