Search is on for new school superintendent

By SALI McSHERRY

Several changes are taking place in the administration at Chagrin Falls schools.

The Chagrin Falls School Board accepted Superintendent Stephen Thompson's resignation last week. He will lead the Willoughby-Eastlake School District, beginning in August.

The school board met in executive session Monday to discuss several items, including a replacement for Mr. Thompson.

Board President Karen Wise said Tuesday the board is reviewing search options and contracts of several companies that could perform a search. She said the plan is to hire an interim superintendent within the next couple of weeks.

The school board hired Christopher Woofter Monday night to serve as principal of Chagrin Falls Intermediate School.

The former principal, Charles Murphy, who led the school for nine years, was named last month director of curriculum and instruction. He was given a two-year contract with an annual salary of $101,000.

Mr. Woofter, principal since 2000 at Nordonia Hills schools, was given a two-year contract with an annual salary of $95,000.

In the spring, Assistant Superintendent Robert Hunt resigned to take a job as superintendent of Streetsboro schools, beginning in August.

The assistant superintendent position has been changed. While Mr. Murphy will perform many of the duties of the position as director of curriculum and instruction, district Business Manager Kurt Gabram will take over the duties of personnel.

Interim high school Principal William Koons, a longtime educator and administrator in the Chagrin Valley, is completing his term this summer. Steven Ast, who served under him, was promoted to principal last month. Robert Winton, formerly a teacher in the Kenston School District, recently was hired to serve as assistant principal at Chagrin Falls High School.
