Fire damages $600,000 to Sherbrook Park home

By SUE HOFFMAN

A fire discovered early Tuesday morning caused a total loss to a home valued at approximately $600,000, at 5800 Ledgebrook Lane in the Sherbrook Park subdivision. There were no injuries.

Solon Fire Chief William J. Shaw said no one was home at the time of the fire. "Indications are that the fire had burned for a long time before it was noticed by neighbors at around 12:30 a.m.," he said. "The fire is still under investigation."

Homeowners are Sheik and Samantha Shabazz, who lived at the residence with their children.

Mr. Shaw said the family was at a relative's house for July 4th festivities, where they stayed for the night.

"There was substantial fire damage prior to our arrival," Mr. Shaw said. The fire was mainly fought from outside. "Our firefighters attempted to attack the fire from within." However the floor was soft from the damage, and they had to vacate the building, he said.

Twelve firefighters were at the scene, including staff from all three Solon stations as well as Chagrin Falls, Orange, Bedford Heights and Aurora fire departments.

Mr. Shaw said the fire will take time to investigate because the entire building collapsed.
