LAWRENCE G. WISE
June 30, 1936 - July 28, 2011
Larry Wise, a 44 year resident of Chagrin Falls and So. Russell died peacefully July 28th at Hamlet Manor after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends.
After graduating from Mentor High School, he served in the United States Army where he was stationed in the Philippines. Upon his discharge, he attended and graduated from Ohio University with a degree in economics. He was a Vice President of Bearing Distributors, Inc. when he retired.
Larry was an active participant in life. He loved tennis, golf, music and was a Life Master bridge player competing in tournaments from Canada to Florida. He was a community volunteer serving on committees for South Russell Village and president for many years of the Whitetail condominium association.
Larry loved his church where he had been a member for over 40 years. He served in many leadership capacities and helped start the Saturday morning men's group that thrives to this day. He loved gardening and was active in creating the Rose Garden at the Federated Church. He served as a delegate to the UCC Conference of the Western Reserve.
Larry was a vociferous reader and loved to forward books and book passages to friends and family.
His passion in life became peace, justice, and conflict resolution often writing letters to the Chagrin Valley Times and The Plain Dealer expressing his thoughts and ideas.
Larry is survived by his best friend and dearest wife of 51 years, Carol; his loving children Kathy (Carl) Litzler, Mike (Karen) Wise of Chagrin Falls, Sue (Brian) Beckman of Holland, Michigan; and his adored grandchildren, Chris and Jamie Litzler, Andrew and Jeffrey Beckman, Michael, Daniel and Ethan Wise and Nicholas, Matthew, and Jessica Benedetti. He is also survived by his sister, Gayle Haines, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the Federated Church in Chagrin Falls on Saturday, Aug. 6th at 1: 00 PM. A reception will take place at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Federated Church, P.O. Box 60, Chagrin Falls, OH 44022 or to the Hospice of the Western Reserve, 300 E. 185th St. Cleveland, OH 44119-1330.
