DAVID R. ERICKSON

David Ralph Erickson of South Euclid, a retired manufacturer’s representative for the foundry industry, died July 26 in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was 72. Mr. Erickson, who was born in Cleve-land, was a lifelong resident of Northeast Ohio. After attending University School and Fenn College, he followed his father, Ralph, as a representative for grey and cast iron foundries located throughout Ohio and the East Coast. Mr. Erickson later joined E.C. Prior & Co., a family-owned business, as a salesman. He was an avid sailor (a former member of Mentor Harbor Yachting Club) and sports car collector whose vehicles often appeared in the Blossom Time Parade in Chagrin Falls. Mr. Erickson also enjoyed participating in charity activities throughout the area, and was often seen as the official race starter for events such as the English Speaking Union’s canoe races on the Cuyahoga River and the Regatta in the Park on the Shaker Lakes.

Mr. Erickson is survived by his sister, Susan Van Buskirk, of Herndon, Virginia; and two nephews, Duncan Erickson Van Buskirk of Arlington, Virginia and Cameron Anderson Van Buskirk of Suffolk, Virginia.

Memorial donations may be made to University School Annual Fund, 2785 SOM Center Rd., Hunting Valley, Ohio 44022. Relatives and friends are invited to meet for the graveside services Saturday, August 20, 2011 at the Mayfield Rd. Gate to Lake View Cemetery at 11 AM, which will be followed by a reception to pay tribute and celebrate the life of Dave in the Community Room of THE DeJOHN-FLYNN-MYLOTT FUNERAL HOME, 4600 MAYFIELD RD., SOUTH EUCLID (just East of Green Rd.).
