Roof work scheduled for service department
By SUE REID
Weather permitting, the deck replacement of the roof on the Solon Service Department was scheduled to begin Monday (Oct. 3). The approximately $1.5 million project is slated for completion in June 2012.
Service Director Thomas Bandiera said that the staging of materials on site and the electrical portion of the project began late last month.
A.W. Farrel and Son, of Cleveland, was awarded the contract for work on the 68,000-square-foot roof, and a consultant from Rooftec Inc., of Willoughby, will provide full-time quality assurance monitoring.
Mr. Bandiera said of some initial work on the project that electrical was disconnected from the decking.
"So far, things are going smoothly," Mr. Bandiera said last week. "We're waiting for some good, stable weather to start opening up sections of the roof."
As things stand currently, Mr. Bandiera said, the day-to-day operations of the service department on Cochran Road are not disrupted by the roof work.
"The contractor has been good about providing a daily update on where work is occurring and what areas need to be avoided," Mr. Bandiera said.
The project is being broken into two phases, with the first phase including various portions of the roof and decking replacement. That phase is to be complete by Nov. 30.
The second phase will begin in the spring as soon as the weather breaks, he said.
The project in general "could not come any sooner," Mr. Bandiera noted.
The roof has shown early signs of deterioration, and there is premature failure of the entire roof system. It will all need replaced as part of the project.
