Paving brings delays on Bainbridge Road

Travelers along Bainbridge Road in Solon can expect delays this week, as the final course of asphalt on the entirety of the road began to be placed yesterday (Nov. 2).
Pat Lynch, project supervisor of the Cuyahoga County Engineer's Office, said Monday that the Shelly Co., of Twinsburg, will begin topping off the final course of asphalt on the road. They plan to work through the weekend, he said, and delays are expected.
That is due to the fact that there will be hauling trucks in and out of the area. He said that the contractor, DiGioia Suburban, will have police officers assist in traffic control.
While this surface course is being done, which should take three to four days, weather permitting, the contractor will back off on work associated with drives and aprons, Mr. Lynch said. They will resume that by the beginning of next week.
About 40 aprons are left to do and are on the south side of the road from Liberty Road to Dorset Lane.
"The goal and the priority would be to get the aprons in so people won't have to suffer through stones in drives and aprons in the winter," Mr. Lynch said. He said the contractor has the ability to work in cold temperatures because, with concrete, as opposed to asphalt, there are ways to work with it with winter protection.
Mr. Lynch said the contractor is likely to break around the Thanksgiving holiday or the beginning of December for the year. Last year, they worked through the winter, because there was underground work to do. Following the completion of the aprons, all that is left is restorative work and landscaping, which will be done next spring, he said.
The project is close to 95 percent complete and $10 million of the $12.5 million project has been spent.
