PAUL A. RISTAU

Paul A. Ristau, age 94, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2011. He is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Ruth (nee Uthoff); and his two loving children … son, Timothy (Kathy) Ristau of Russell, Ohio, and daughter, Kaaren (Lee) Arthurs of Atlanta, Georgia. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren, Kara (Michael) Peterson, Eric (Deanna) Arthurs, Kevin (Leslie), Christopher (Anne), and Katelyn Ristau. Paul was blessed with nine great grandchildren, Hunter, Austin and Amelia Arthurs, Emily and Owen Peterson, William, John, Claire, and Jackson Ristau.

Paul was born December 27, 1916, in Cleveland, Ohio, and graduated from East Tech High School in 1934. He served in the US Navy during WWll and worked as a sheet metal journeyman, recently receiving his 70th year anniversary pin. He served as Financial Secretary/Business Manager for Local No. 65 Sheet Metal Workers Union from 1967 to 1981 and was the Recording Secretary for the Building Trades Council of Ohio for eight years. He had been a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cleveland and was an active member of Valley Lutheran Church in Chagrin Falls where he was a choir member, usher, volunteered over 25 years helping with church maintenance, made books for the blind through the Lutheran Braille Ministry, and created hundreds of red Christmas sleds for Sunday School children and the children and grandchildren of church members and friends. He also loved to make stained glass, play horseshoes, bowl, and play softball with the Babes of 1916 where he was President for two years, Treasurer for many years, and did some umpiring. He was always there to lend a hand to those in need, loved life, and loved especially to be with his family. He will be greatly missed by many.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Karoline; brothers, Elmer, Herman, Albert, Walter, Edward, and Erwin; sisters, Helene Dreger and Edna Haslem. He is survived by his sister, Olga Phillips.

A memorial service will be held on December 3rd, 11:00 AM, at Valley Lutheran Church, 87 East Orange Street, Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Private interment in Evergreen Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Valley Lutheran Church or Lutheran Braille Ministry. Arrangements by Stroud-Lawrence Funeral Home Chagrin Falls, Ohio.
