Awards, honors pile up for high school athletes
Solon football
Nick Davidson of Solon was named the Defensive MVP for the Valley Division of the Northeast Ohio Conference for the second straight season.
Davidson, a senior linebacker, tallied more than 120 tackles and two interceptions to help Solon finish 4-1 in the NOC, which gave their Comets their third-straight conference title.
As a unit, the Comets' defense gave up the fewest amount of points in the conference.
Davidson also was named First Team All-Ohio for Division I.
On special teams, Solon's Alex Knight was named Punter of the Year. He averaged more than 35 yards a punt and tallied about 1,000 yards with a long of 58.
First Team selections for the Comets included Tres Barksdale, Darian Hicks, Nate Hoff, Justin Kresevic, Ryan Schwenke, Austin Stock and Corry Stuart.
Honorable mention selections were Patrick Kramer and George Berry.
Hawken football
Jeremy Simmons of Hawken School was named the Offensive MVP as a senior running back for the Metro and Valley Divisions of the Chagrin Valley Conference.
Simmons rushed the ball 1,440 yards on 228 carries this season, including 21 touchdowns, to help the Hawks finish 4-2 against CVC teams in the Metro and Valley Divisions.
Simmons also was named First Team All-Ohio for Division IV.
Baui Senkfor was named first team as an offensive lineman. Joe Marabito was named second team as an offensive lineman. And Khari Anderson was named second team as a defensive end.
Ryan Stilson and Seth King received honorable mention recognition.
Kenston football
Kenston's Alex Kocheff, a safety-linebacker convert was named First Team All-Ohio defense. He tallied 92 tackles, 54 assists, two sacks and an interception as a senior for the Bombers.
Kockeff was also named First Team All-Chagrin Valley Conference along with teammates Nick Lombardy, Marko Palumbo and Darryl Richards.
Earning Second-Team All-CVC for Kenston were Sam Coverdale, Zack Goldfarb, Andrew Soltay, Austin Zachem and Sky Zahner.
Mike Braun and Jamar Williams earned honorable mention recognition.
Boys cross-country
In the Valley Division of the Chagrin Valley Conference, Hawken's Adam Berry was named first team. His teammate Nick Wood was named second team. Alex Wood and Corey Shupp earned honorable mention recognition.
In the Chagrin Division of the Chagrin Valley Conference, Kenston's Conner Schabel and Karl Randall and West Geauga's Kyle Wilcox and Gabe Mihacevich earned second team honors.
Honorable mention recognitions were given to Keven Dole and Ross Newbauer of Chagrin Falls, Blake Nelson and Connor Goldhamer of Kenston, Keifer Wiley and Andrew Shuffer of Orange, and Skylor Gomes and Mark Pritschau of West Geauga.
Girls cross-country
Alexandra Markovich of Hawken was named MVP in the Valley Division of the Chagrin Valley Conference. Her teammates Rachel McKay, first team, Mackenzie Harris, second team, and Emily Staufer, honorable mention.
Meanwhile, Kenston's Emily Latimer, Olivia Latimer, Lindsey Clasen and Emma Dicker all earned first team honors for the Lady Bombers in the Chagrin Division.
Kenston's Allison Porter, West Geauga's Louise Cortland, Chagrin Falls' Meg Cantlay and Orange's Clare Ubersax and Erika Kess all earned second team honors in the Chagrin Division.
Earning honorable mention recognition were Claire Anderson and Emily Van Wagoner of Chagrin Falls, Alexis Fleming and Brigitte Kolibab of Kenston, Stephanie Alden and Drew Schlachter of Orange, and Tori Sargent and Natalie Poremba of West Geauga.
Volleyball
Kennedy Clyde of Hawken School was named MVP of the Chagrin Valley Conference Metro Division as an outside hitter.
Her teammate Gabby Zuccaro was named second team as an outside hitter. McKenna Kasper was named second team as a setter. And Pia Beck and Alyssa Hunter received honorable mention recognition.
Meanwhile, in the Chagrin Division, Jaime Kosiorek of Kenston was named the MVP. Her teammates Stephanie Bindernagel, Emily Newell and Lori Zagar were named second team.
Katie Coverdale and Melissa Landsman received honorable mention.
Girls golf
Brynn FitzGerald of Orange was named MVP of the Chagrin Valley Conference.
Earning first team honors were Kenston's Kelly Poe and Tess Ferguson, Hawken's Meredith Cohen and Orange's Sam King.
Allie Schwertner and Haley Newman of Hawken, Kennedy Fay and Chloe Mikus of Kenston, and Rebecca Raab of Orange earned second team honors.
Ali Gole and Rebecca Berstein of Hawken and Hannah Bates and Marion Brosko of Kenston received honorable mention recognition.
Boys golf
David Rudary of Solon earned first team honors in the Northeast Ohio Conference River Division.
Jacob Schroeder of Kenston earned first team honors in the Chagrin Valley Conference. His teammate Tyler Smith earned second team.
Girls tennis
Surya Khadlikar of Hawken was named the MVP of the Chagrin Valle Conference as she won first singles.
First team honorees include Amy Smedira of Orange for second singles, Emily Leizman of Hawken for third singles, Katie Widman and Riley White of Chagrin Falls for first doubles, and Kelsey Guzik and Marin Magnusen of Chagrin Falls for second doubles.
Second team honorees include Natasha Birze of Kenston for second singles, Shea Marks of Kenston for third singles, Keirstan Kure and Kathleen Swanson of Kenston for first doubles and Jennifer Mazanec and Clair Cohen of Hawken for second doubles.
Emily Mazzola and Anna Benson of Chagrin Falls, Sydney Green of Hawken, Kendall Althans and Miranda Kyle of Kenston, and Adrian Young and Carmen Gota of Orange received honorable mention recognition.
In the Northeast Ohio Conference Valley Division, Tinisee Kandakai of Solon earned first team for first singles. Her teammates Saidy Chung and Danielle Pivovar earned first team for first doubles. Lisa Guo and Hailey Baird earned first team for second doubles. Jamie Marks and Monika Bandi received honorable mention.
