Solon second in Comet Classic
The Solon Center for the Arts prsents a new twist on the classic tale of Ebeneezer Scrooge with a retelling titled "The Christmas Carol Rag" Dec. 8, 10 and 11.
Written by Norman Allen, the local production of a funny and deeply moving musical is directed by George Roth, a Solon resident and well known Northeast Ohio actor.
In this version its Evelyn Scrooge, portrayed by Adina Bloom, who runs her sweatshop with an iron fist.
Ms. Bloom, an equity actor, reprises the role she peroformed at the Cleveland premiere on the Kalleiope Theater stage several years ago.
In the play Evelyn is and is visited by ghosts like no other including a Yiddish-spouting Spirit of Christmas Past played by another Solon resident Dani Apple.
The "Christmas Carol Rag" cast also features six of SCA's Spotlight Youth Theater actors including Olivia Chamberlain, Kyle Fisher, Andrea Friedberg, Hannah Kulawiak, Graham Roman and Danielle Stanek.
Both Ms. Bloom's daughter, Zanna and Mr. Roth's daughter Olivia are part of the youth chorus.
Music for the show includes classics by Victor Herbert and George M. Cohan including "hello, My Baby" and "Streets of New York."
The Solon Center for the Arts is located at 6315 SOM Center Rd. Curtain is 7:30 p.m. Dec. 9 and 10 and 3 p.m. Dec. 11. Reserved seat tickets are $25 and $20 for seniors and students. Call 440-337-1400.
All tickets include a 45 minute theater pre-curtain preview with the director and a Meet the Artists reception following the production in the SCA gallery.
