SIMMONS PHILLIP DALE
PHILLIP DALE SIMMONS
Phillip Dale Simmons was born on March 24, 1949, to Fred and Mabel Simmons of Chagrin Falls, OH. He attended Chagrin Falls Park Elementary School where he completed seventh grade school work in the sixth grade. After elementary school he was placed at Auburn School with other gifted students for the school year. At that time, Phillip was the only black student in the school. In 1967 Phillip graduated from Kenston High School and then went onto Ohio State University on a scholarship.
In 1994 Phillip was involved in a vehicle accident sustaining numerous fractures and some brain damage. He died twice on the way to the emergency room but was revived. He was in a coma for a month and had to relearn all basic skills. By the Grace of God, Phillip gave his life to Christ and allowed Him to totally change his lifestyle from one of smoking, drinking, carousing, and drug use to the lifestyle of a Saved man of God. He thoroughly enjoyed and embraced his new life in Christ and through it made much progress in his secular life. He was a faithful member of Southeast Seventh Day Adventist Church.
In September 2011 Phillip underwent a procedure for liver cancer and became ill. On January 3, 2012, after a courageous fight, Phillip passed away. A devoted son and brother, his calm, sweet, gentle, and considerate personality cannot be replaced and will be greatly missed.
Phillip leaves to mourn, brothers; Leon Simmons (Lucy), Fred Simmons, William Simmons (Mary); sisters, Judith Simmons and Rosemary Jones; brother-in-law, Nathaniel Jones; sister-in-law, Johnny Ruth Simmons (Louis-deceased); and a whole host of nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, and numerous other relatives. Phillip was preceded in death by his mom and dad and one brother, Louis.
Services will be held Tuesday, January 17, at Southeast Seventh Day Adventist Church, 16602 Tarkington Avenue, Cleveland, 44128 (corner of Lee & Tarkington Ave.) at 10:00 a.m. with funeral immediately following at 10:30 a.m.
