Board member resigns, but councilwoman stays

Stanley Morganstern resigned from the Orange School Board Monday, saying he wants to spend more time in Arizona with his children and grandchildren.
The 70-year-old attorney is married to Paulette Morganstern, a Pepper Pike city councilwoman, who has no immediate plans to resign. She said Tuesday she is very vested in the community, attends meetings and keeps up with all the paperwork. "It continues to be a learning experience," she said.
Their Pepper Pike home is for sale, Mr. Morganstern said.
In the middle of his second four-year term, one of the biggest accomplishments of the school board, he said, was hiring a topnotch superintendent and primary administrators. "I've never been so impressed with a group of people in my life," Mr. Morganstern said.
He said he was resigning prior to the semiannual, two-day board retreat at the end of February, when the board and administration set goals for the future. It's important to get a new board member on track to be involved in that process, he said.
"Stan has been a key leader in the Orange schools for many years. His leadership and involvement will be missed," board President Samuel Steinhouse said. "The board of education would like to thank him for his commitment to the Orange schools."
The Morgansterns' three children graduated from Orange High School. They now live in Arizona.
Managing partner of Morganstern, MacAdams & DeVito LPA, which specializes in family law, Mr. Morganstern earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from Ohio State University in 1963 and his law degree from Cleveland State University, where he graduated first in his class in 1967.
He has served as editor of the Domestic Relations Journal of Ohio and the general editor and contributing author of West Group's Ohio Domestic Relations Law, formerly known as Banks-Baldwin. He is an adjunct professor at University of Phoenix.
The Orange School Board is interviewing candidates to serve out the last two years of Mr. Morganstern's term. By law, the open seat must be filled by the Feb. 13 board meeting. Applications for district residents interested in the position are available at the board of education office or by calling 216-831-8600, ext. 6626. The deadline for completed applications is noon Jan. 25.
