George Arthur Barnard, age 95, of Bainbridge Township, passed away January 21, 2012. Loving and devoted husband of 72 years to Rita (nee McDermott); loving and devoted father to the late James (MaryCay), Margaret Saraney (Lyle), the late Patricia Muliett (Greg), Robert (Gayle), Nancy Hastings, Kathleen Skala (Norman), the late Rita Lesesky (Alan), Elizabeth Redder (the late Ronald), Donald (Linda), Thomas (Barbara) and David. Loving grandfather of 28 and great-grandfather of 34.
George was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on August 25, 1916, to George and Elsie (nee Reece) Barnard (both deceased). He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, James Kauf; his sister, Thelma McConihe, brother-in-law, Alan McConihe; nephews, Thomas and Jay McConihe; and granddaughter, Deana Saraney. George's family was the most important part of his life. He enjoyed playing golf and maintaining and enlarging his home for his growing family. He built a swimming pool in the back yard in 1954 and planted a large garden every year for the same growing family. George loved to dance with his one and only "girlfriend" Rita. George worked for Chevrolet in Parma for over 30 years. George will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 4, 2012, at St. Joan of Arc Church, 496 East Washington Street, Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8pm Friday, February 3, 2012, at Stroud-Lawrence Funeral Home, 95 South Franklin St., Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Interment at Bainbridge Restland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in George's memory are encouraged to a charity of one's choice.
