NEMETH MARY LOU
MARY LOU NEMETH
Mary Louise Nemeth (nee Soltes) passed away on Tuesday, April 3, at The Greens of Lyndhurst. Beloved wife of the late Frank, loving sister of the late John Soltes (Vivian); Dorothy Armstrong (the late Edward) of Las Vegas, Nevada; and William Soltes (Shirley). Mary Lou was a loving aunt and great aunt to 17 nieces and nephews.
Mary Lou first attended Fenn College of Engineering in the 1950's, pursuing a degree in electrical engineering. After being told that no one would hire a woman as an engineer, she then went back to school to earn a degree in business. Following graduation, Mary Lou worked in several corporate positions before embarking on a 42-year publishing career that included 32 years with Huebner Publications, publishers of Tooling and Production, Metalfax and Designfax. Among her many accolades, Mary Lou was the first woman inducted into the business and industry category of the Ohio Women's Hall of Fame. In 2005, she was awarded the G. D. Crain, Jr. award at the annual meeting of the Business Marketing Association. She recently established the Mary Louise Nemeth Endowment Fund, with the income to be used to provide scholarships for students in both the Fenn College of Engineering and the Nance College of Business at Cleveland State University. Mary Lou set up the endowment fund so that she could help needy students receive an education. Since she had received a Scholarship herself, she wanted to ensure that future generations of students, who may not have the financial means to attend college, will have the opportunity. This was Mary Lou's way to give back.
Cancun, Mexico, was Mary Lou's second home where she made many friends over the past 50 years. Everyone knew her as their "Tia" or aunt. She served on the Advisory Board for the Royal Resorts in Cancun, Mexico, where she was the first woman to be elected to a board position. Additionally, she served on the Board of the Sherwood Park Homeowners Association as one of the first residents on the street. She was an active member of St. Rita's Parish in Solon, Ohio.
Funeral Mass was held Monday, April 9, 2012, at St. Rita Church, 32820 Baldwin Rd., Solon with interment at All Saints Cemetery, Northfield. The family suggests contributions to St. Rita Church.
Funeral arrangements were handled by STEINBAUER FUNERAL HOME, 33375 BAINBRIDGE RD., SOLON.
