Re-elected in November, board member resigns

By TONY LANGE

Solon Board of Education member Dorothy Seibert resigned May 1 after serving for 24 years.

She notified board President Margo Morrow with a letter April 30, prior to school board meeting. She was re-elected to her seventh four-year term on the board last November.

Mrs. Seibert and her husband sold their home in Solon and have plans to move to their condominium in Florida, she said in her letter.

"When we placed our home on the market in late February, we had no idea when it would sell. We had heard so many stories about homes taking years to sell," she said. "Due to the excellence of the schools and the city and our wonderful neighborhood, the house sold immediately."

Mrs. Seibert praised her fellow board members, students, staff, faculty and the entire Solon community in her letter.

Mrs. Morrow said, "Dorothy has been integral in the development of so many of our district programs. In her role on the board, she was instrumental in taking the Solon schools from a good school district to the great school district it is today. Life changes, and we understand Dorothy's need to move on in another direction."

School Superintended Joseph V. Regano also commended her service. "Dorothy's insight has been a hallmark on the board for many years," he said. "She always kept a keen eye on balancing the needs of the community with the needs of our students. But at no time did she waiver in her determination to ensure the Solon schools were continually improving and providing the best possible academic program for our students."

Mrs. Seibert's resignation starts a 30-day clock for the board to name her replacement, as required by law and district policy. The law also states that a replacement cannot be voted upon for at least 10 days.

To apply for the position, community members should send letters of intent along with a resumes to the Solon Board of Education, in care of Superintendent Joseph Regano, by noon May 11. Candidates are welcome to submit their application materials by mail to 33800 Inwood Road, Solon 44139, or by faxing to 440-248-7665.

Candidates will be contacted for interviews directly, and any information submitted is subject to public records laws.
