R. BRUCE CAMPBELL
R. Bruce Campbell, age 75, of South Russell, OH, died May 17, 2012, at his home. Born July 4, 1936, in Pittsburgh, PA, to Robert J. and Doris (nee: Custer) Campbell. He is survived by his wife, Jane, (nee: Margerum) Campbell; sons, Scott (Karen) Campbell of Waterford, NY, and Mark (Susanne) Svette of South Russell; daughters, Holly (John) O'Flaherty of West Park, Christy A. Bruce held many titles during his long and distinguished career with the Higbee Company and KeyBank including President, Executive Vice President, Senior Vice President and Vice President. With a strong commitment to community he served on the boards of several civic organizations including the Center for Community Solutions, the Greater Cleveland Growth Association and the Old Stone Foundation. He was, until his death, a trustee and Vice President of the John P. Murphy Foundation. Among his many interesting career achievements was participating in the development of the universal bar code and rewriting and filming of "A Christmas Story" at the Higbee Company store on Public Square. Every "ruga-shmuga" and "cheese and crackers" the father grumbled can be credited to Bruce. During his retirement he had been consulting with several local and national companies in senior executive compensation and employee development.
