HARRY WOOD NICHOLL

Harry Wood Nicholl, 89, of Chagrin Falls quietly passed away July 25th, 2012. Born in Anderson, Indiana to Ruth (Hill) and Thomas Nicholl, he moved to Cleveland Heights where he graduated high school. He immediately enlisted in the US Army and served in the Philippines and Japan during WWII. On leave from the service he met his sweetheart, Virginia Benson, on a bus, asked her for a date and six months later, after the war, they were happily married for 66 years. Before and while raising five children he attended college at Case Western Reserve University. He spent most of his business career in the transportation industry with Leaseway. For 25 years he hosted a big band radio show with his wife and son-in-law at WKHR at Kenston High School.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia; and five children, Deborah (Ted) Batchelor, Amy (Mark) Skipper, Nina (Gregg) Gilkey, Benson (Cheryl) Nicholl, Melinda (Doug) McFann; nineteen grandchildren, Kirby & Cody Linck, Virginia Gonzales, Melissa Mitchell, Grant & Brendan Batchelor, Sarah Peters, Victoria Skipper, Meghan Friesen, Abbey Blanks, Mallory Theiss, Gwen Gilkey, Chase & Bryn Nicholl, Tyler Rose, Hudson, Harry, Sawyer & Salor McFann; two brothers, Thomas and Hugh; one sister, Mary Burnham; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends Saturday, August 18, from 4 to 6 at his granddaughter's home, 7079 Cedar Street, Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Burial will be private.
