Chardon No. 5 small town in country
Chardon has been named one of the top 10 small towns to live and visit in the United States. It’s the smallest town on the list.
Livability.com, a comprehensive online resource website for the best places to live, released the article “Top 10 Small Towns, 2012” and has ranked Chardon as No. 5 on a national scale. Editors research 500 cities annually and narrow down the field to small towns that are a close-knit community, have low crime, are often a relaxed atmosphere and offer wholesome fun.
To be considered for the list, as said by Livability.com, a city must have less than 25,000 residents, a low crime rate and a low unemployment rate. Additionally, researches look at the median household income and home prices, the average commute to work and the distance to large cities. The quantity and quality of each town’s lifestyle is considered, as well.
Teree Caruthers of Livability.com said Chardon’s amenities that appealed to the editors include its natural beauty, a thriving arts and cultural scene, ample outdoor recreational programs and economic development assets. The assets such as Chardon’s research and development, diverse business atmosphere and low unemployment rate for residents contributed to the ranking.
Furthermore, the unique characteristics of Chardon allowed the city to stand out. The annual Maple Festival, summer concerts and large amount of snowfall are what make Chardon special. Recreational sports, fine dining and location to nearby attractions offer a variety of activities for residents and visitors to do. The article states that having a “New England” feel is what sets Chardon a part from the other 500 considered cities.
