Wavell O. Spencer-Cruthers, age 80 of Burton, Ohio, passed away Saturday, September 22, 2012, at UH Geauga Medical Center. She was born on February 23, 1932, in Wayne County, WV, daughter of Martin and Florence (Canterbury) Caldwell. Wavell was one of the first employees at Kinetico in Newbury. She worked there for over 20 years and was a resident of this area since 1953. Her hobbies included Bingo and crocheting. She made Afghans for numerous people.
She will be missed dearly by her friends and family; her husband, Melvin F. Cruthers, of 24 loving years; her son, Bill (Diane) Spencer of Middlefield; her daughter, Carolyn Grassette of Elmira, NY; 4 grandchildren, Crystal (Brian) Yoder of Middlefield, Bill (Amy) Spencer of Rome, Jennifer (Lance) Ames, and Robin (Josh) Bennett, both of Elmira, NY; 10 great-grandchildren; and her brothers and sisters, Martha Kelly of VA, Roger (Juanita) Caldwell of WV, Rosemary Phillips of Brunswick, Bruce (Charlotte) Caldwell of Ohio, and David (Penny) Caldwell of WV. She is preceded in death by her first husband Billie C. Spencer; her parents; and her brother, Bernard Caldwell.
A Celebration of Life will be held 11:30 AM Saturday, September 29, 2012, at Russell Funeral Service, 15670 West High St. (Rt. 87), Middlefield, OH. A gathering of friends and family will be held Saturday, 10:00 AM until the Service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Shadyside Cemetery in Auburn. Pastor Bill Spencer, Jr. will officiate.
