HERN MARGARET JANE MAYER
MARGARET JANE MAYER HERN
Margaret "Peg" Jane Mayer Hern, 85, passed away on September 28, 2012. She was born on February 3, 1927, in Olean, NY. She graduated from Olean High School in 1945. Peg attended Ohio University and graduated in 1948. She met James Hern while in college and they were married in March of 1948. They lived in Chagrin Falls, OH. James owned and operated Hern Oldsmobile-GMC Truck in Bedford, OH from 1964 until 1993 and Hern Oldsmobile in Jacksonville, FL from 1988 until 1993, while Peg stayed home and raised their three children. They relocated to Jacksonville in 1989 and sold the dealerships in 1993.
Peg was involved in the Women's Club of Chagrin Falls for 30 years and was President twice. She was a talented bridge player and was Life Master Award winner in 1997. She was an avid golfer and President of the Ladies 18 hole Golf Assoc. at Chagrin Valley Country Club. Upon her beloved husband's death in 2007, she spent the last 5 years running weekly Bridge games and teaching Bridge in Ponte Vedra and Jacksonville.
Survivors include her children, Tom Hern, of Lexington, KY, Larry Hern of Ponte Vedra, FL, and Lorna Hern of Raleigh, NC; brothers, Richard Mayer of Towson, MD, and Donald Mayer of The Villages, Ocala, FL; grandchildren, Leigh Ann Krenz of Akron, OH, Carolyn Hern of Winston-Salem, NC, Becky Mann of Lexington, KY, Jonathan Hern of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, Stephen Hern of Cleveland, OH, and Thomas Hern of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; and great grandchildren, Emily and Eric Krenz.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 12th in Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, with Monsignor Daniel Logan as Celebrant.
