FLANAGAN JOSEPH C.


JOSEPH C. FLANAGAN

Joseph C. Flanagan of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, died on Saturday, April 18th, at Hospice of the Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio. He was 86 years old and the husband of Irene S. Flanagan. Born and raised in Springfield, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late James P. Flanagan Sr. and Mary Leary, and the brother of James P. Flanagan Jr. He was a graduate of Boston University and a US Army Air Force Veteran of World War II. He served in the 450th Bomb Group of the 15th Army Air Force. The 450th participated in 265 raids including many missions over Germany, D-Day operations over Southern France and many other strategic targets in Europe.

Mr. Flanagan was a retired executive from General Electric Company. He retired in 1989 as the Manager of Finance for GE's International Lighting Department in Cleveland, Ohio, and traveled extensively throughout the world. He also held various financial leadership positions throughout his career with GE's operations in Louisville, Kentucky; Auburn, New York; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Schenectady, New York.

Aside from his wife Irene, he is survived by his three children and their families; son, Bryan Flanagan and his wife Elaine; son, Andrew of Arnold, Maryland; daughter, Maureen Stern and her husband, Richard; and children, Amanda and Kevin of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; and son, Neil Flanagan, and his wife Lisa; and sons, Ryan, Connor, Matt and McKay of Ridgefield, Connecticut.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 23rd, at 10:00 am at St. Joan of Arc Church in Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Burial will follow in Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Chagrin Falls. The family will receive friends at their home in Chagrin Falls after the burial. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 300 East 185th Street, Cleveland, Ohio 44119.

"Family was always first for Joe" his family said. "He had a great sense of humor, and was fully dedicated to providing a great life for his wife, children and grandchildren. Joe loved to read, and had a keen interest in following news and world events. He and Irene loved to travel the world together. They made many close friends at every stop in their journey together. Joe will always be remembered as an adoring husband, a great father, a proud grandfather and the best friend you could ask for."
