LAX JOSEPHINE STAI

JOSEPHINE STAI LAX

JOSEPHINE STAI LAX, longtime Chag-rin Falls resident, born June 9, 1924, in Eau Claire, WI, and raised in Chippewa Falls, WI, passed away peacefully in her Fort Myers, FL, home on April 16. She was in home hospice and in the loving company of her devoted husband of 65 years, Milton J. “Mel” Lax of Fort Myers, FL, and Chagrin Falls.

“Jo,” as many knew her, was a loving mother to Patricia Lax Davidson and Scott Milton Lax, both graduates of Chagrin Falls High School and current residents of the Village. She was the adored “Grandma Jo” to Tyler (wife Lyon nee Martin) and Jamie Davidson, also both graduates of Chagrin Falls High School, and who now live in the Chagrin Valley, and great-grandmother of 20-month old Patrick Joseph Davidson.

Josephine was also the adored daughter of the late Knute Stai and Gilma Stai Walton; and devoted sister to the late Wilfred "Bill" Stai and Vivian Stai Schroetter. She was beloved by many relatives and friends, who recall her warmth, humor, and giving nature, along with her grace and beauty. Jo was a true animal lover and was also known to pay attention to every detail without drawing attention to herself.

Jo was past president of the Chagrin Valley Junior Women’s Club, and active in numerous garden clubs and bridge clubs. She also participated in the Chagrin Valley Little Theater, and along with her husband, Mel, in many dance clubs. Mel and Jo picked up tennis in their 50s and became excellent players when they lived at Walden in Aurora in between homes in Chagrin Falls.

Jo Lax will also be remembered as a compassionate, fair-minded, and successful realtor for the Thomas Reap Realty of Chagrin Falls, where she was a recipient of numerous sales awards.

Jo Lax’s calling hours were at Stroud-Lawrence Funeral Home on April 22, and her funeral, conducted by the Reverend Mark Simone, was at The Federated Church later that day. Her entombment occurred on April 23 at Crown Hill Cemetery in Twinsburg.

Donations may be sent in Jo’s memory to her daughter Pat’s Friendship Fund for her ALS home care, c/o Helen Pointer, 36 Bellview Street, Chagrin Falls, OH, 44022.

She will be deeply missed by all who love her.
