Beatles music is 'greatest ever'

Beatles music is 'greatest ever'

There is one thing about Blossom Time we would miss, if one year it was not on the schedule. Saturday evening's Beatlemania, the Beatle tribute band that has been the highlight of the big-top-tent entertainment since it first appeared on the scene lo these many years ago.

Was there ever a band or music that was any better? Don't ask me, I'm biased. Just last week, we wrote a story centering on the Blossom weekend festivities, and we took liberties in calling it "a showcase of the greatest music ever written."

Classical music fans and Glenn Miller devotees would likely disagree. But we needn't have worried about their bruised sensibilities, because an editor in his wisdom cut the hyperbole out of the story.

But to us, music of the Beatles is the greatest ever written. The test is that it has survived almost 50 years and three generations of people who still rock and roll to "She Loves You" and "Twist 'n Shout."

Witness the SRO crowds of people from infants to oldsters who jammed the big-top tent to relive the music of the Fab Four. Everyone, no matter how young or old, sang along, and they all knew the lyrics.

There is something about the bittersweet "Hey Jude," "Let it Be" and silliness of "Yellow Submarine" that transcends age and other differences like gender, religion and politics. Beatles music is heard at every life event, from weddings to funerals. Beatles music is a common denominator and, in our humble opinion, the definition of what is the greatest music ever written.

You may have heard the world-touring Beatlemania foursome hails from Connecticut, California, Utah and Chagrin Falls.

"The cutest Beatle," Paul McCartney, played by Mac Ruffing, is remembered by Chagrin Falls High School friends as understanding his calling even then. He wore his hair in a Beatle cut and drove a VW Beetle with an eight-track tape player which was always playing one Beatle song or another.

HERE COME THE BRIDE AND GROOM -- Folks over at the Chagrin Valley Little Theatre are in a romantic mood, because their June production is a comedy titled "Perfect Wedding."

So caught up in the flowers and rice thing, they are looking for the perfect couple to be married on the CVLT stage after one performance during its June 5-27 run. The theater will provide a wine-and-cheese reception in the River Room and its sound system for music the couple chooses. Twenty family members and friends may attend that night's performance at discounted tickets.

There is a catch. Couples must write a 100-word essay, "Why We Want to be Married on the CVLT Stage." Entries should be mailed to Wedding Giveaway, c/o Chagrin Valley Little Theatre, 40 River St., Chagrin Falls. The deadline for essays is June 3. A panel of three judges will choose the winner.

In conjunction with the wedding giveaway, the theater will hold a silent auction of new designer bridal gowns throughout the play's run. They are on display in the lobby.
