Prepper sprints to regional track titles

University School's Justin Chappelle qualified at last weekend's Division II regional track and field meet in three events for this weekend's state meet. The state meet will be held at Jesse Owens Stadium on the campus of the Ohio State University in Columbus.
Chappelle won both the 100-meter dash and the 200 meters. In the 100, he had a time of 10.88 seconds, just three-tenths of a second off a 23-year-old Ravenna regional record. He ran a 21.53 in the 200.
He also qualified in the long jump, placing fourth with a jump of 21 feet, 1 inch.
The Chagrin Falls boys' track team placed third with 40 points to finish behind Cortland Lakeview, which won had 53 points and Peninsula Woodridge with 41.5 among 39 teams.
The Tigers' Ryan Kochert qualified in two events. He won the pole vault with a 14-foot effort and finished third in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 2 inches.
In the 400-meter run, Chagrin Falls' Jack Spilman finished in second place with a time of 49.6 seconds. In the high jump, the Tigers' Michael Hageman was also a second-place finisher. Only a freshman, he had a best effort of 6 feet, 4 inches.
Orange's Michael Martin made the qualifying cut in the 1,600 meters. He finished fourth in 4:21.
Orange's Amanda Schmauder qualified in the pole vault, finishing in a tie for third place with a jump of 9 feet.
Chagrin Falls' Lisa Roach had a fourth place finish with a jump of 5 feet, 2 inches to advance.
