As a culminating activity for Math Week at Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin School in Munson, students from Marcia Pecek’s algebra class unveiled their 10-foot tall Sierpinski pyramid. The pyramid, a geometric structure that was handmade by students over the past seven months, is constructed of more than 4,000 smaller paper pyramids known as tetrahedrons. The Sierpinski pyramid is an example of a fractal, a geometric pattern that is repeated at ever-smaller scales. Students working on the project included Greg Morawski (from left), 17, Michael Belak, 15, Brinley Stanovsek, 15, math teacher Marcia Pecek, Melissa Cyrus, 14, Ben Lozar, 17, Candida Solinsky (front), 16, Kristin Steiger, 15, Shannon McFarland, 15, Andi Cribari, 15, Erin Malone, 15, and Annie Dempsey, 15. All the students made a stage-three triangle like the one the girls in the middle are holding.
